E-mobility specialists, Aventon, have added a single-speed option to their line of urban eBikes; the Aventon Soltera. Though also available in a 7-speed model, the most affordable and lightest Soltera is the single-speed option, retailing at $1,199 USD. Pitched as a powerful and nimble eBike for urban adventures, the Soltera features integrated lights with optional racks and fenders available to transform it into a practical commuter. Here are the details.
Aventon Soltera Single-Speed eBike
Following release of the Aventure Fat Tire eBike and Level Commuter eBike in late 2021, Aventon are riding into 2022 aboard a single-speed eBike. The Soltera is the newest addition to the fleet of urban eBikes, and probably the most versatile of the lot. Aventon hasn’t pigeon holed it as a commuter bike, leaving it up to the customer to decide whether they want a rack and fenders. They position it as a “nimble” eBike, with a more upright seated position than their Pace Cruiser eBike.
This one gets a 350W Brushless Rear Hub Motor. What’s that when it’s at home? Brushless simply refers to the lack of brushes between the stator and the rotor. This is said to make the motor efficient, removing wear parts to deliver what is essentially a maintenance-free motor. On top of that, the fact that this ebike is single-speed means that, overall, it shouldn’t be too difficult to live with.
Assistance can be delivered via a throttle or the pedal-assist mode up to a speed of 20 MPH with average range quoted as 41 miles on a full charge. The integrated front and rear lights ensure you can see and be seen at night, with the rear lights positioned on the seat stays where they are visible from the rear and, importantly, the sides too, so you can be seen at junctions by all other road users.
The Soltera gets rim brakes which are, on the whole, less powerful than their hydraulic disc brake counterparts. That’s no bad thing, though. It can be a much safer option for riders who aren’t familiar with the sharp braking capabilities of a disc brake.
The Soltera itself weighs 41 lbs (18.5 kg) without a rack and fenders. That’s probably light enough to carry up a flight of stairs, but that’s for you to decide. If you’re planning on using this eBike for grocery shopping, bear in mind that the bike has a maximum load capacity of 300 lbs (136 kg).
The Soltera is available in two size options, regular and large, covering rider heights from 5’1″ to 6′ 4″.
