Giro d’Italia launches NFT collectibles, details a bit cryptic

Tips & Reviews

The Giro d’Italia tweeted a teaser of their NFT collection to celebrate the event, with a single morphing Maglia Rosa kaleidoscope video promo. The actual NFT is a bit simpler, with a rotating pink jersey over the background shown above.

Designed by Italyverse, it’s available for just $49 (o.02 Polygon bridged to ETH) with a limited supply of (presumably) 1000. As of this post going live, 993 are still available, with no claimed utility or benefit other than being a digital collectible…which, as an NFT enthusiast myself, is a missed opportunity…but, there’s more to come:

As the race progresses, they’ll open up new jerseys, including the Maglia Bianca, Maglia Azzurra, and Maglia Ciclamino. Logos, posters and other memorabilia will also be offered, as will the Trofeo Senza Fine via auction. The site also suggests a free Giro NFT collectible will be claimable simply by registering an account with their marketplace.

To buy one, you’ll need to create an account on ItaliaNFT and, from the looks of it, bridge ETH to Polygon, which could easily cost more than the NFT depending on network volume. Or just use a credit card.
